Has Anyone had a high level in their PT/PTT labs but still able to have the gastric surgery?

Yes, but it depends on how high "high" is.  It also depends on why it is high.  If you take medication of some kind that decreassa blood clotting (aspirin, blood thinner, even antiinflammatories), and you can simply stop that medication before surgery, it likely isn't a problem at all.

Many of us who have had gastric bypass surgery took anticoagulants before surgery because of problems with blood clots and/or embolisms.  We just had to go off of the medication 5-7 days before surgery (and use short acting heparin injections until the day before surgery and then for several days after surgery until our normal anticoagulant medication kicks back in). I have done this process a dozen times in my life.  It isn't a big deal.

If you have some kind of clotting disorder, though, surgery may not be recommended. Only your surgeon can tell you that.

Thank you for your response. I don't take any blood thinners or any other medications. My levels were a little high not a lot. I have my next appointment with the surgeon Aug 5th. I'm just hoping he gives me my preoperative diet and surgery date! I'm  excited and hopeful. I just want the surgery already.

Thanks,

Joanne
