The Day Before Surgery

It's the day before surgery and I don't know how to feel. I leave to Harper Hospital at 3:30 AM.

On one hand, I feel excited to get this new tool to help me with my weight loss.

On the other hand, I never had any kind of regular (non-twilight) anesthesia before and the biggest surgery I ever had was tooth extraction. I don't know if I'll be in immediate pain when I come out of surgery or I'll feel fine.

I think I will be fine, somtimes I tend to over-worry on things.

I fell like I could have written this....  Here's how I'm looking at it; look at all the people that had the surgery and are doing just fine.  The dr's must know what they are doing!   Why do you have to leave at 3:30?  What time do you have to be there and what time is your surgery??

Surgery is 7:30 AM but I have to be there 3 hours early. Plus it takes about an hour to be driven there.

3 hours?!?  Yikes!  Mine is scheduled (atm) for 7 am and I need to be there at 2 hours before.  Thankfully I'm only  mins away from the hospital :)

I have had a few surgeries (not WLS yet, but other stuff). I have to use the "everyone is different" disclaimer. But for me, I don't feel immediate pain when I come to. Usually, I'm so sleepy I could care less what's going on. Back in the room, when the drugs really wear off is when you will be conscious of pain. But they keep administering pain medication even while the anesthesia is wearing off, so you won't want to scream from pain or anything. With my surgeries I always had a button I could push to deliver more pain medicine. The important thing to remember is... Push the button when you start feeling pain. If you wait until the pain is intense, it is harder to get it under control. They have the pain medicine programmed so you can't overdose, so you can't administer an obscene amount if you tried. The thing that sucked for me was, I was so stoned from the narcotics that I would forget I had a button to push. So, my pain got a little out of control a few times. And the nurse didn't believe me because I wasn't pushing the button.

Yeah, the button rocks. Hopefully you get a button for WLS. I was in Michigan for my surgeries, so I think it should apply to you. Since moving to Canada, I have not received more than a Tylenol for pain control (and I had a bone graft). Clearly there are some differences between countries. 😄

Considering what a massively huge and booming town Belleville is, I find that hard to believe. 

Seriously, I was still on dial-up in Belleville in 2010 because Comcast wouldn't run cable down my road. You poor people.
