funny you say that. When its someone I don't know well I usually quip. "Picked up an awesome crack habit and it all just fell off!!" But when its someone that I am a little more close with or need to treat well I just say "Its a plan my doctor and I are working together on." Its not a lie, and its not giving away info. Then change the subject.
I'm having surgery tomorrow and this is something I've put a lot of thought into because I know I'll be forced to deal with it. It is so incredibly rude that people that don't know you or hardly know ask such personal questions. A standard answer that might work and I plan on trying is, "A lot of hard work and dedication." This doesn't make you a liar and it doesn't give them more information than you are comfortable with. I also think that saying, "diet and exercise" is okay too because you're still not lying. Yes, some may consider that lying by omission. Oh well, I don't really care. It's not everyone's business what I do with my body. My medical history is not open for discussion. I have had this conversation with people and have been told that I will HAVE to tell people because they may wonder or assume I had surgery anyway. Actually, I don't HAVE to tell them anything! So far I have told the people that I'm most comfortable telling and will continue to only tell people when I feel comfortable doing so.

Your advice is the bomb, I will mostly use it because these diets pre-op are taking lots of dedication. I want some Waffle House but don't trust myself to go near the place.
I'm glad to know that there's folks on here that are anticipating surgery, I'm six days away after waiting for so long for my anemia to stabilize (PCP refused to clear me until my levels were better) I'm appreciative, excited and mostly scared because I never want to be close to 300lbs again!
Ive gotten down to 260lbs for the surgery, good luck tomorrow I will be rooting for your journey! Peace, love and hair grease!
