Should I get on a scale?

So I have been going back and forth about this for a while.  I am having RNY on July14 and I can't decide what I want to do after surgery.  Part of me tells me that I want to get on the scale every day and see how awesome it is that I'm loosing weight.  However, I know that I will get frustrated if I gain or if I plateau.  So the other part of me says that I should just follow the rules and simply enjoy the experience as my clothes get smaller and I begin to feel better.  I will be weighed at my doctors appointments so I will have the occasional update.

I'd like to hear from people who have done these things and what they feel are the positives and negatives of their experience.

I weigh myself the same time once a week and I keep a log.  I've been doing this for many years now & even at my highest weight would do so because it made me formally face it.  Now I have a great record to look back on for perspective but the number is there just as a control - not a measure of sucess. I get that from the NSVs, I never tire of those.

I weigh myself daily and use TrendWeight. This lets me focus on trending data instead of daily fluctuations. For me, this is the best way. I got to be 319 by being in denial and never weighing myself. I now have a healthy relationship with the scale.

I recommend getting the Fitbit Aria scale if you're a Fitbit user. Or the Withings body composition scale if you're not.

I weigh myself everyday.  Not weighing myself and being accountable was a wonderful way for me to get to 344 lbs.  It's what works for me.

I made a decision before my surgery to only get on the scale once a week and not to obsess over numbers. I use a calendar program on my laptop and have a set reminder for every week.  It helps me stay accountable without becoming controlled by it.  I have done this since Sept 8th of 2014 and have lost 99 lbs since my surgery! I have had a couple of stalls for about a week or two, but this works for me.  Find what will work best for you!  Good luck on your exciting new life!

I weigh myself every Friday when I first wake up in the morning.  On the first of every month I measure myself.  I keep a journal of this.  I have been for 6+ years.  It helps me maintian

In the beginning I weighed almost every day. But my only "official" number was my weight on Tuesday's. I chose that because it was my surgery day of the week.

I still only count my Tuesday weight. But I weigh far less often now.

I am a daily weigher. I think in maintenance it is very important to weigh yourself regularly and stay accountable to yourself. During the losing phase, if you are following your plan and little fluctuations will drive you crazy, you may want to only weigh in your doctor's office or once a week at home. Do what you think will work for you.
