I'm scheduled to see surgeon 7/27/15.  I want the gastric sleeve surgery. I am a 3 year breast cancer survivor with no problems of reoccurrence so far.  I'm wondering if this will be  a reason for the surgeon to deny performing the surgery.  Has anyone else encountered this?

I was about 5.5 years out from initial diagnosis when I had VSG.  Surgeon had no issues at all with it.  At the last minute, my insurance company did want a statement from my oncologist regarding the surgery. That didn't bother me at all, I had wanted his opinion, too and asked him about it very early in the process so I knew he was supportive.

The oncologist's statement for the insurance company was super short, something long the lines of that there is no evidence to suspect that WLS would affect my long term oncology outlook  He also said that my tamoxifen absorption wouldn't be hindered by the sleeve.

Best of luck moving forward!  It is so NICE to be moving forward, isn't it?

I am almost 11 years post breast cancer and no one even mentioned it pre-op. I had my RNY Feb 20/15. I can't see imagine that it would prohibit you having weight loss surgery. Best wishes! Chris
