First day eating real food

I bought a bagel and I took a couple of bites of it and I  put it away but it wasn't that I was full. I'm just trying to train myself to do this but my question is will my stomach tighten up anymore than it already has. Because if I can still eat the same portions as I did before surgery then I need to really get this under control

I have no idea which surgery you had...or when you had it.  But choosing to eat a bagel on your first day of solid food is a BAD, BAD idea   First of all, regardless of our surgery, we are suppose to eat a protein-forward diet.  Meaning 1-2 oz. of protein first and then, if you have room, some low carb veggies.

Bread, pasta, rice and other high-glycemic carbs should be off your plan forever.  Or at least until you hit goal weight.  And white flour carbs will not make you feel full.  Many people say they are "sliders" that go right through them so they can eat a LOT of them.

Step away from the bagel and eat a scrambled egg, some cheese or other protein.  You'll be glad you did.

What Tracy said.

Did your surgeon not give you a list of "approved" foods to start with?!?  I can guarantee that a bagel is not on anyone's first solid foods list.

The biggest part of this journey by far is learning to make good food choices, and you are, to be honest, not off to a good start.  So, throw out the bagels and start again with something that is PROTEIN and IS approved... And stick to those things.

Thanks but I don't know why I ate a bagel I don't even like them but I figured it will fill me up. Now back to my question will my stomach tightened up or a Tay just the same

No, your stomach will not shrink. If anything, it relaxes a bit as swelling goes down over time.

That said, you won't feel any restriction right now because all of the nerves in your stomach have been cut, and they take a while to grow back. That's why it's SUPER important to weigh/measure everything you eat, since you can't trust your body to tell you when your stomach is full.

You won't feel any real restriction until after the nerves heal up and then only when you eat dense protein (chicken, fish, beef, pork).  If I started eating crackers or something else before my protein, I would be able to eat a bushel of 'em.

Read this post.  It will help you understand why it's so important to eat protein first and how you can most effectively work your new "tool" - Pyloric Valve 101

Really helpful article! I wonder if it's the same for RNY as VSG. I'll ask my medical team at my next appointment.

And one tip for the OP - it sounds like you reached for the bagel because you didn't have anything else on hand. I always try to plan my day food-wise, so I don't end up eating something weird that makes me sick.

My understanding is that the pyloric valve is removed in a RNY.
