Wow!  I have every one of them.  And I failed my first WLS.  Go figure.

The advice she gives is spot on.  Pretty much how I try to do things now.  I always say that WLS is operating on your body to deal with a problem that usually has to do with your mind.

I hope everyone contemplating WLS examines their eating habits and addresses any food issues before surgery.  It helps tip the scales (sorry I couldn't help it) a little more in your favor to having a successful surgery.

The rubber band thing is a good idea.  I'm going to try it.

You had me right up until you suggested the 12 Step program. I'm not giving control to a "higher power". It's my issue to control and resolve. I'm an intelligent, resourceful, accountable human being. Having taken the first steps toward re-gaining my self control, self-worth and self-reliance I'm not going to resign myself to being so weak that I have to give up everything to a religious idol. No. The rest of the points in the article were quite accurate and understandable I believe.

12 step programs work for millions of people struggling with various addictions, all around the world. For those who find success with it, great. For those who don't believe in the program - what benefit comes from dissing it ?

The benefit of "dissing" it was in my explanation. Because I disagree I should be silent? Hmmm. How about another alternative that the author or a member might know of? Something tangible to discuss and research?
