Heaith issues, no insurance, really need weight loss surgery

Is there any Doctors, programs, websites that will help with financings surgery? My credit is not good, but my health is getting worse, my copd is getting worse (I quit smoking 7 months ago) but put on an extra 50+ lbs. My husband had a heart attack last year and hadn't been able to work since, so even though I have health issues of my own, I had to go to work to support us and this weight is making it hard for me to work and hard to breath, joint pain that is unbearable at times. We also have our 8 yr old granddaughter living with us. Please if anyone knows of a way for me to get it or how to qualify for a charity surgery, please reply. Thank you and God Bless.

You don't say where you are, but the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America I believe scholarships a few every year.  Can you get insurance or Medicaid? In some areas I believe Medicaid will cover it, as I see people on here post about it. Good Luck

I would recommend going to a major hospital social work department and asking if they have any community resource specialists/advocates the could help you with this.  ASK if there would be a cost for them to help you.  ALSO check with "Billing, Finance, & Financial Assistance Dept."  These people at the hospital SHOULD be able to help you obtain health insurance and/or free care/grants.

Does your COPD qualify you for Social Security Disability?  Does your husband's health entitle him to Disability?  Since you have your eight year old granddaughter living with you, does that entitle you to some type of benefits (like foster parents do) - that would give you extra income?  Have you contacted Social Security to look into any of these benefits?  That's all I can think of.

You could use a credit card or apply for Care Credit.

Go to seminars given by weight loss surgeons and ask them if they offer financing or know of any who do.

If you do have some insurance try using the form from the top blue bar on this site. Go to RESOURCES and drop down to box that is Medical Necessity. This letter gives you an outline for you and a doctor to use to get an insurance company to approved surgery. Good luck.
