Pre-Op Liquid Diet
I am having a gastric sleeve procedure done on July 6th and I am on my 3rd day of my liquid diet.
I had weened myself off of caffeine before being the diet in hopes of avoiding that headache while also going through the drop in calories.
Since starting the diet I have had a headache and diarrhea. I am taking the HMR lactose-free shakes that my doc gave me. I am wanting to know if this is normal? Any suggestions? They said I can have tylenol, but tylenol has never worked well for me.
Other than the headache and diarrhea I am actually doing okay so far! I am find keeping the end goal in mind helps me focus away from the hunger and desire to eat other foods!
When my surgeon told me to lose weight before surgery, my immediate thought was "Why bother, it will just come back." Before I even said the words, I realized, "No they won't, that is why I am having the surgery." The promise of the surgery helped me make good decisions during that pre-surgical period. I hope the same is true for you. (My surgery was 6 months ago.)
I might suggest to keep a log of your problems - although I suspect that they will fade, if they don't you will have record to help your doctor evaluate if you are having a medical problem or not.
Best of luck,
Sharon
I put myself on the pre-surgery diet when I decided to have my surgery. I gave up pasta, rice, bread, soda, chips, coffee etc. If you had a lot of caffeine that may explain the headache. It will gradually go away. If you need to have coffee, switch to caffeine free. I don't think there really is any difference in taste - at least to me. I went from 355 down to 311 the day of my surgery. I have found that the fewer carbs I have, the less likely I am to have the diarrhea. My best suggestion for right now, is to become aware of the difference between "head hunger" and "real hunger". Best wishes on your journey!
