Need OH More Than Ever Now - cross post
Last Thursday I received a call that my husband had suffered an aortic dissection while he was in Brainerd Minnesota on a week long golf trip with his college buddies. I flew from San Francisco to Minneapolis later Thursday night and drove 2 hours to Duluth where he was flown. He's in ICU while they try to control his blood pressure enough to get him back home. He will be facing surgery in the next couple of months. During the emotional chaos of packing, getting airline tickets and getting to him I had enough brain cells to throw my vitamins and a few packets of Syntrax into my suitcase. I've been able to make pretty decent protein first choices in the hospital cafeteria by chosing turkey or ham sandwiches with cheese and using the lettuce as my bun. We have a mini-frig in the room so my mom & I went grocery shopping and bought greek yogurt, fruit, deli turkey & ham and water. I'm going to run out of protein powder in the next day or so. I was struggling getting my water in before getting 32-40 oz and I'm struggling to keep it up. I'm hyper aware so I've made sure to have a water bottle with me.
Does anyone have a protein powder they like that is store bought? I'll be adding it to coffee hot and cold, water and maybe milk. I love Click and left my stash at home so any suggestion that is close would be appreciated. Any tips on staying on program while traveling?
P.S. The potato chips are screaming my name too. So far I've ignored them.

Part some RTD protein shakes. EAS makes a good one. Cafe caramel is the best. They sell them in the food store.

Ps. I will pray for your husband and strength for you to help him pull through this.

My first year my mother passed away and I flew out of state so I know what you are doing. It was very important to me to be prepared and plan out my food so that I didn't turn to food for comfort.
I made it as easy as I could on myself. Ready to drink protein drinks really helped me, as did greek yogurt and cooked chicken. When I did go you to eat I did what I do when I am at home and check out the menu ahead of time and plan ahead.
All I can advise is plan ahead and be as prepared as you can be but also cut yourself a break and know that you won't be able to control your eating as well as you can at home and make the best choices you can with what you have available.
Your husband is in my prayers as well.

Considering what is going on, I think you're doing great with your choices and you reached out for support here.
You've already received suggestions for protein powders from other members but I wanted to reply with my support. Keep taking care of yourself and what you need so you are better able to be there for your hubby.
My thoughts are with you and your husband. Please update us when you can.
Healthy hugs to you and hubby.

Oh good god, Annie - this is horrible news! I am so sorry you're going through this and pray your husband rallies and gets the care he needs.
I don't have any good ideas on store-bought protein powder. Focus on lots of water and just do your best. It actually sounds like you're doing a fantastic job with what you have available.
Good luck to you and hubby!
It's good you are taking care of yourself in such a stressful time. Prayers for your husband's recovery. .
Making protein coffee is not that difficult. Mix the protein powder with a little water or milk to make a paste then add your coffee. RTD protein is a good choice for convenience. GNC has numerous protein powders as well as Quest bars and also RDT Isopure. The Isopure is pricey but I get 2 servings from each bottle
Take care.
