Anyone having issues bleeding while on birth control?  Did you find a solution?  I have the Mirena. Takening estrogen for 2 weeks but when I off the bleeding starts all over again...please help....I didn't realize the procedure was going to mean no sex life for me.  :(

I don't have Mirena but a co-worker of mine had to have hers removed because she no longer felt the string and her period wouldn't end.  It turned out it had imbedded in her uterus.

My daughter has a copper IUD and she says she suffers from extra long, heavy periods.

But my sister had hers for 5 years with no issues at all.  So go figure.

How long has it been?  I know sometimes it takes your body a few months to acclimate to the birth control.

My suggestion is to talk to your doctor.  There are many different types of birth control.  The two of you might need to find one that works with your body better.  I know that my first choice didn't work out.  My doctor suggest something else and I have been using it ever since and it's been two years.

Slightly different from your situation, but I was given a Mirena because of heavy periods after the birth of my son.  Initially periods were lighter and I was told that it could take 6 months to regulate with my body.  Multiple providers that I work with have indicated that those who are heavier, have a worse time with side effects such as break through bleeding, longer periods, etc.  I'm hoping once I lose the weight, I have better experience with Mirena, but so far its not awful.  Just spotting like 14intermittent days a month.  SIGH

When did you have surgery? And when was your iud put in?

i am 5 months in and only in the last three weeks have my hormones settled enough from the hormone dumping that I think I'm back to what should be normal without my iud. (Although that is still debatable.)

now my iud was at 5 years, I had it replaced this week so I'm expecting thing a little bumpy for another month perhaps.

And yes, my sex life sucks lately for this reason.

When was your surgery?  It is normal to have spotting after surgery - but it shouldn't be causing you to have periods especially if you hadn't had them pre-op with the Mirena.  I'm on my second Mirena - the first I had placed after my lapland surgery in 2006 and the second 7 months post op RNY in 2014.  My periods completely stopped with both Mirena but I had a few weeks of on and off spotting after any surgery.

I'd call my OB and ask if you are concerned or it is interfering with your normal life.

I had a mirena several years before surgery and had no periods until my WLS. I bled for two or three weeks post-op, and then it went back to normal.

I'd suggest talking to your OBGYN. Many folks have a bit of a "hormone dump" in the first months post-op as we lose weight, and that combined with estrogen supplements could be part of the problem. Your gyno may also want to check that the IUD is still in place.

It's hard to say without knowing when you had surgery and when you had the Mirena placed. I had my Mirena placed four days before I had gastric bypass. I bled for a couple of weeks, but then it just stopped. I haven't bled at all for over two months now, but it can take longer for some people to adjust to Mirena.
