Acid reflux after surgery???
Last night I woke up with a burning sensation in my chest. And all day today I have had that burning sensation. I use to have acid reflux all the time. That is one of the reasons why I opted to get the gastric bypass surgery. I take prilosec every day still. My dad gave me zantac this morning. No relief. Yes I have been having BMs. How can I get rid of the acid reflux?? Please help!!!!
You may need stronger or different ppi.
Or omeprozole 2x day..

Check with your doctor because as I person who's struggled with severe reflux for many years, I've found it feels different post RNY. I, too, remain on prescription strength Nexium and just had an EGD. RNY is supposed to be the best treatment available for reflux but I guess some of us just need more time. I'll be on the nexium until my one year mark then I'll wean off. I would definitely speak with your surgeon as there can be other issues. Best of luck! Feel better soon.
Do not mess around with OTC stuff that isn't working. Get to the doctor and get on a prescription. I take Protonix - miracle drug!
Other things to watch: no eating at least 2 hours before bed; no acid foods like tomatoes; elevate head of bed; cut back caffeine; no chocolate or peppermint.
Excess acid is nothing to ignore or mess around with. It can lead to ulcers (disastorous for WL patients) and esophageal cancer. I hope you can find some relief soon!
