Gastric Bypass Induced Menopause!
I spoke with my surgeon about this very thing. At the time of surgery, I was 46 yrs old and 10 months without a menstrual cycle. He explained that since the surgery is such a "traumatic shock" to the body, it was possible that my cycle could return. Luckily for me, it did not. As of now, I am officially in menopause at 47. I am early based on both my mother and grandmother's time line. Both entered menopause at 55.
My surgery was March 30, 2015 and I am finding I have more hot flashes which I solve by turning on the air! ;-)

I actually had exactly the opposite experience. I had my first baby at 34 -- became pregnant with our second baby at 41 -- lost him at 19 weeks for no apparent reason (I suspect obesity and advance age) -- got pregnant again at 42, and sadly miscarried again at 13 weeks -- again for no apparent reason according to testing done. After that, I had a "period" every month but it was very scanty and I assumed I was in the beginning stages of peri-menopause.
After surgery, I had my first period 3 weeks after -- completely normal cycle -- and have had one every 28 to 29 days since. In fact, it has been so regular and normal that I can predict within 5 hours of its start. Still, I had testing done on the 3rd day of my cycle to see if I was starting menopause -- and not only was I not -- but they strongly encouraged me to start birth control ASAP.
Statistically, fertility rates increase after gastric bypass -- not decrease. Thus, I do not think this is a worry for most younger women. I think it's likely that you were already heading into menopause. My girlfriend has 6 sisters -- and some of them have started in their 40's and other's in their mid-50's.

Gastric bypass in conjunction with a low carb diet corrected my follicle stimulating hormone to luteinizing hormone ratios. Allegedly, I no longer have PCOS! So, if anything, it has supposedly given me my fertility back!

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
Siblings CAN be vastly different.
My sister (NEVER had WLS) went thru menopause at 50 (she is now 57). I was 59 (I am now 61) and 2.5 years post DS before I went thru menopause. I had to be blood tested every year for mine since my uterus was removed but not my ovaries. Until I turned 59, my gyno would tell me, nope not yet...you have the same hormones as a 16 year old.
Honestly, I don't think surgery is the key...it's genetics and even siblings can inherit differently. (Law of genetics in play). It's also why sibling DNA is not identical.

I went through menopause at 48. Had VSG when I was 53. I will say that a few months after the VSG I started to have hot flashes. Discussed with my GYN. Estrogen is stored in fat cells. As I started to lose weight the extra estrogen was released causing the hot flashes. Thankfully it only lasted about a month. When I had my revision a year ago didn't have any issues. Also believe that the weight loss and the diet after surgery can cause your periods to stop.
If you are concerned about the menopause, I'd talk to your GYN. They do blood tests to confirm. I wouldn't assume that you are going through menopause until you speak with dr and on that same note, make sure you continue any birth control methods until you find out for sure.
