How often are you eating?
When you do eat, how much food do you have?
What kind of food? Is it the type approved for you at this point post-op (mushies, etc.)?

What type of iron is it? Elemental iron? Some people find that it bothers their stomach, but sometimes iron carbonyl is a little easier to handle. I take that, I get "Feosol" with the teal label from Walgreen's and it works well.
Since you're fairly new out of surgery, I'd suggest calling your doctor and seeing if he/she has any other suggestions.

I absolutely can't take ANY pills on an empty stomach - ever. Pills, vitamins, whatever...make me instantly nauseous and I will throw them up.
Talk to your doctor about other ways to ingest these ie. liquid, gels, etc. I can usually get my PPI down OK in the morning everything else has to be after I eat.

I would drop the iron for a few weeks. Your numbers won't tank that fast. Give yourself time to heal. Vitalady has Tender Iron which is easy on the tummy
