I need advice-waterpark seating issue

Hello,  my family has season passes for the local waterpark so we plan on going quite a lot this summer. Here lies my problem. I have only noticed like 2 benches in the entire park. The majority of the seating is plastic lounge chairs. Well the last time we was there i decided to give it a try. I sat in the lounge chair but getting out of it was another story. I was mortified. My husband ended up having to pull me out of the darn thing with all of his strength because it was so low to the ground.

My question is what can i take with me that i can sit in? I doubt the park will let me take my "big max" 400 lb capacity lawn chair. What other options is there for handicapped or obese people who can't sit in the chairs provided?

Thank you.

Call the park and ask them! They have to allow handicapped accommodations.

Oh my -- I remember I had a problem very similar to this except, I broke the chair in front of 100's of people.  I felt so embarrassed and humiliated.  Worse, it took my husband and another man to get me up off the ground -- and when they did the chair was wedged on my ass.  UGH.  I just wanted to disappear.

I ended up taking a large capacity folding chair nearly every where after that -- I'd take the previous poster's advice and call first to get permission.  Really, it's a disability issue -- so they will very likely accommodate you.

Big hugs.  I remember the feelings like it was yesterday.  I am glad you are looking for solutions rather than just not going.  You got this!

My chair looked somewhat like this (400b capacity)

I agree with the others.  Take the time to call ahead.  Explain you don't have the physical ability to sit in the chairs provided.  They may have other chairs more suited for your needs in the back.  If not they should let you bring yours.  I mean what can they say, no.  It's a physical ability issue.  No different then elderly people.  Are they going to make them try to get out of these chairs.  From the sounds of it my grandmother wouldn't have been able to.

Just like the other poster I had an embarrassing incident too.  I broke a chair also.  It's humiliating.  You don't want that happening to you.

What is it with water park seating?

Two summers ago, I went to a water park with my extended family: nieces, nephews, stepchildren, in laws, etc. I exceeded the weight capacity for every thing (as usual) but got the spectator pass to enjoy the day. Sat down on a plastic chair and - BOOM! Broken. Collapsed. Needed help to get up and two people to pry the remnants off my ass.  It was horrible and humiliating. The memory is burned into my brain.

One of my goals post surgery is to return there... And I'm determined to not to sit on a chair but to go on the attractions!  I'm so looking forward to being a part of the activities instead of looking on! (And I'm already doing this just 10 weeks post surgery!)

anyway back to you.  GOOD FOR YOU for planning ahead and finding solutions to participate in the family fun while keeping your own needs attended to. Next year will be a brand new season in every way, but I'm so happy you will enjoy this summer season with your family, in comfort and in style.

I had a similar goal after WLS.

About a year before, I had gone to Cedar Point with my husband and son (roller coaster capital) and wasn't able to ride anything but the ferris wheel.  There are no discounts, either.  I spent the whole day, walking in the hot sun carrying everyone's stuff while I waited for them on the rides.  My son begged me to ride with him -- and I feigned that I didn't like rides -- I was basically the pack mule for the day.

I went back a year later almost to the day.  I rode everything with my little boy.  This summer, I took him to Disney.  I rode EVERYTHING --- and not only did I fit, I was small enough to even ride on the kiddie rides.

But my heart is still obese -- I watched full of sadness as a dad had to take the walk of shame when he didn't fit on the roller coaster at Universal with his little girl.  No one can understand how it feels to suffer these little humiliations unless we've been there.  Be sure to post your victory at the water park -- those NSVs make all the hard work so worth it!

My DD used to be on a swim team and I still take her to the pool fairly often.  I've spent many days and nights in those plastic lounge chairs.  Fortunately, they don't have those saggy plastic strappy ones - those are just impossible.  These are white with wide plastic slats - it's kind of an all one piece sort of seat.  I can get into 'em, but can't get out.  Fortunately, my DD is old enough now and can help provide some counter balance and can help pull me out.  I haven't broken any chairs there, but I do feel it give a bit when I sit (or is that fall?) into it.  I've had both knees replaced so I choose to believe it's my knees that give me trouble while getting up. Hey, it works for me.  I wear my swimsuit and get in the water, too.  I try really hard to be brave and do everything I can with my DD.  I'm just not going to do any waterslides and stuff like that, and fortunately my DD has never really liked those things anyway.  I am hopeful that once I have my surgery and lose the weight, I'll be able to do more fun stuff!  It's great to hear how others are living those dreams!!

I also have an XL camp chair that I've brought to the pool from time to time - the pool has never even batted an eye at that chair.  However, it starts to dig into my upper thighs after awhile and then it gets too painful to sit in anyway.  My pool survival kit includes a fan-not a teeny tiny one, but it's about 5-6 inches and runs on 4 C batteries - that helps me stay comfortable, too!  And I bring a goofy looking big floppy hat and dark sunglasses too.  I figure I already stand out in a crowd, might as well feel comfortable doing it.

Good luck!!!
