There was absolutely no room for veggies of any kind for the first few months.  I had my hands (and sleeve) full just getting my protein in.  Don't worry - you won't develop any deficencies in such a short amount of time :-)

Eventually you can eat a few bites of veggies after you've eaten your allotted protein but you don't want to start with anything super string or fibrous (like celery).  Steamed, grilled and roasted are how I usually do mine.

In the pureed food stage, I got mashed potatoes. They are a starchy veg though!  I also go ff refried beans! Yum!

It seemed like veggies were the last thing to be added. I was doing meats before I was doing lettuce, carrots.

I was able to do really soft cooked green beans at that point. I tried a raw carrot and it felt like I ate a brick so I waited another two weeks on raw....which was what my Nutricianist recommended in the first place =)

I agree with Tracy, I didn't get veggies for months as part of my meals.  I ate celery as soon as I could handle it for a snack but they were not part of my normal meals until 5 months or so.

I'm three months post op and every now and then I can eat a green bean or bit of potato. I do eat refried beans quite often and I do okay with tomatoes. I also don't eat any fruit to speak of except in my morning shake and maybe applesauce. My NUT said I could have leafy veggies but so far there isn't much room in my diet and they don't work out well when I've tried.

I was allowed to add cooked veggies at week 3 and can add raw ones in week 7. My plan also recommends getting at least two types of food (like meat and a veggie) at every meal starting in week 7.

My plan included cooked-to-mush veggies once I graduated out of soft foods, and raw veggies at 8 weeks. I'm 11 weeks out and still have a difficult time finding room for more than a few tiny bites once I've eaten my allotted protein. I did splurge during one meal last weekend and ate two steamed baby carrots and a bite of sweet potato instead of having one more bite of my steak ;)

I was able to have soft cooked vegetables after a month. Canned carrots were my first attempt. It took me about 3 or 4 days to eat the whole can. I'm careful with salads because of the raw vegetables. Roasted veggies and baked sweet potatoes are good. Trial and error.

Carpe Diem!
