Losing Hope
Its not even the insurance holding me up no one has sent for approval. It is the therapist herself that said she would not clear me for surgery so I am going through this waiting game then I will have to go through the insurance wait. I started this in April and it just has to be done before the end of this year when insurance starts over. I have so much invested that after the stroke of midnight on 12/31 it will all be lost and my deductible and such will start over. I have learned some new coping skills. I know my therapist does not like my boyfriend but that should be no reason to keep me from doing this. It is so annoying.
Ugh, I don't know you, your situation or your diagnosis, but I'm personally very uncomfortable with that. I know they have ethics standards, but he/she gets a financial benefit from holding you hostage in therapy knowing you are anxious to move forward with your weight loss surgery. You can at least press the issue (calmly and mildly, sort of ask, don't accuse). Do you have a diagnosis? Are you seeing a MD for any medication? What is the therapist reporting to your insurance as the reason for your continued sessions? Insurance won't approve the therapy for a patient without a diagnosis any more than they will approve your weight loss surgery. You need to get the information from your therapist (in writing) and compare that with what she is telling your insurance (they should be able to provide you justification for continued therapy). I like to trust health care providers, but they are human, and I spent many, many years working with insurance benefits.
I hope this info helps, and let me know if you have some specific questions to help you sort this out, it's a deep, murky water to wade. I understand the caution insurance companies take in approving the surgery, but I also hate to see people getting taken advantage of by people we have to trust. I'm not saying that's the case, here, but definitely analyze your situation with a skeptical eye, and if something isn't right, you are entitled to answers. At the end of the day, it's your health and your future that is at stake.
I am over 11 years out and have a different perspective. This surgery is not a cure all or magic fix. Many people, not saying you, but many people take the results of the surgery for granted and do not do the work or make the commitment. Next thing you know, goals have not been met, weight is piling on and revisions are being requested. Usually the tool is not even broken, just not being used appropriately.
The therapy and nutritional counseling not are OPTIONAL.
Stick with it, commit and you will have more success.
