Exercise should be for the physical and mental benefits only. Also, don’t concern yourself with what calories are burned through exercise since those figures (no matter what the source) are not truly accurate.

It can be a factor. But is not essential and is not the key factor. There are all sorts of reasons we should exercise, but weight loss is not the main one.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Vigorous exercise causes my BS drop. Then i need to eat more csrbs and sugars to bring t back again...and again...ot take extra cortisol (our body needs extra cortisol - steroids- while exercising). Either way ~ cortisol make make us more hungry...

More exercise for me = weight gain, not loss.

You have posted repeatedly about your struggle with your weight loss. I hope you are not trying to justify eating more because you exercise. It doesn't work. Lots of studies have found this to be true. HERE is a great article that explains it.

Most of us vets here are active, but not exercise fiends. We know how much we eat dictates our weight. Exercise is not factored into that equation.

I am not trying to justify anything and this post was not about my personal struggles.  I had just never heard that exercise does not promote weight loss until seeing it on OH.  I also had never heard that starvation mode is a myth until coming here either.  I don't eat more because I exercise.  I am specifically asking why exercise wouldn't help with weight loss WHILE following a strict nutrition plan.  Your article, while helpful, explains that exercise ALONE does not promote weight loss.  It's common sense that you can't exercise, eat a Big Mac and fries, and expect to lose weight.  It's not common sense to hear that losing weight is all about nutrition and adding in the exercise barely has anything to do with it.  I'm just trying to make sense of it.

Sadly, a lot of what we've been raised to believe is common sense about a healthy lifestyle is completely wrong :(

Every year in school, teachers would tell us that before Columbus, everyone thought the world was flat. Totally wrong. But everyone taught it, and most believed it. It SEEMED to make sense, right? I mean, there appears to be logic there. It just had zero basis in fact.

Some things, on the surface, SEEM to make a lot of sense. Like marriage, and the Republican Party. But when you look a little closer, they're just plain wrong.
