Weight loss after having tubes tied?

Hello everyone,

I had a lap band in 2010. I was 6 lbs away from my goal weight and I got pregnant. During the pregnancy I had to empty my band and go on bed rest towards the end.. resulting in a huge weight gain. 6 wks after I had my lil man, I got my tubes tied. I was stuck at 210 for 2 months post op and finally reached 190 in April and since then I have been doing 5 miles/1 hr cardio a day and strength training every other day. Busting my ass and I haven't lost anything! I eat 1000 calories a day, I drink water and  I mean a LOT of water. But there is no change. I have heard that people that have their tubes tied cant loose weight. If there is anyone that defeated this beast please tell me how.

Well my tubes were tied years ago and I never felt it made any difference to anything! Not sure why it would. My hormones weren't changed.

extract from medical website (random, lots on Internet)

During the procedure, no glands or organs will be removed or changed. You will continue to produce all of your hormones, just as you did before the tubal ligation. Your ovaries will continue to release eggs, but they will not come into contact with sperm, therefore, you will not get pregnant. Your menstrual cycles will most likely follow their regular pattern according to medical studies.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I would make sure you are weighing or measuring your portions. We tend to over-estimate portion size when tracking our food.

I don't know why it would make any difference. You probably need to go back to specific weighing and measuring and check for too many carbs in your diet.

I suspect it's the pregnancy that's affected your ability to lose weight, not the tubal ligation. Pregnancy can have a lasting impact on your hormones. Sounds to me like your metabolism is super-efficient now.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I'm happy to hear it, just wish I knew what else to do. I do measure all of my food, I don't eat out for that reason. I will just keep on and hopefully it starts working. Again thanks for the responses.

Are you eating protein first and less carbs? Exercise is great but if you are not losing I would try changing up what I am eating. Maybe add a protein drink, if you are not having one...  sometimes we get in a rut with what we are eating, and it's good to change it up. Also don't be afraid of healthy fats... we need them.

Having your tubes tied would have absolutely no effect on your weight or ability to lose weight, so I wouldn't trust any source that says that it does. That would be like saying that having your ears pierced was making it hard to lose weight.  Completely unrelated.

Are you sure you are eating only 1000 calories per day? Are you measuring portions and tracking hour intake?  If not, most people tend to underestimate portions sizes (and therefore underestimate calories as well).

Having your tubes tied should have nothing to do with losing weight.  I had my tubes tied when I was 20 years old (true story!) and I gained and lost LOTS of weight over the last 30 years.  I had VSG two years ago and lost a total of 100 pounds.
