Insurance approval

I found out today I was approved for RNY surgery. Now I am just waiting for my surgery date.

Yes, it is a nail biter , but we got the longest part over with.

Just submitted request for pre-authorization for VSG. Seems typically takes 30 days for an answer. How long did your insurance approval take? Which insurer?

I have BCBS of Texas, and my pre-determination was sent in for approval on May 14th.  This morning I got word that it has finally moved from the Nurse on the authorization panel to the Doctor on the authorization panel.  I'm hoping that means we will be moving forward fast now.  I am going for a revision from Lapband to RNY so I know that is causing mine to take a slightly longer amount of time.

OK cool this is useful information - that there is an authorization panel. I am Empire BCBS.  I will call later today and get a status. 

I actually got my final approval yesterday evening.  They received the faxed letter when they got into the office this morning.  They are just waiting for my hospital stay to be accepted and approved (I have to go in for a longer stay because I have a history of blood clots) and I will be ready to set my surgery date.  This is simply a formality and should be ready tomorrow or friday.  So once it went to the Doctors it took less than an afternoon.

Don't misunderstand.  I do have my approval.  I have a particular situation where I have to get a separate hospital extension approval because my Doc wants me in the hospital for 5 days instead of the 2-3 that most people get.
