Thsi shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has had -- or is considering -- gastric bypass. The issue of nutritional deficiencies with RNY (and DS) is one that is well publicized.
everyone who signs the surgical consent for RNY is also agreeing to the lifetime of vitamin supplements and lab testing. Anyone who is NOT willing to take vitamins 4 times a day should have VSG instead.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I second this. If we follow the program we all agreed to, we will be healthier than the general population. I never had such comprehensive lab work done before surgery, and make sure all my results stay where I want them.

I see that you post often - I'm 5 mo post-WLS and I appreciate folks who are farther out and take the time to respond to 'newer' people.

Nutritional deficiencies can be problematic.
I am almost 4 years out from VSG. I have lost a total of 200 pounds - went from a size 32 to a 10!
My medical doctor routinely draws blood for nutritional screening. So far everything has been stable. only one problem I noticed was hair loss, which was attributed to too much Vit A once I cut back, the hair loss stopped.
Remember to follow the rules, take your Vitamins and supplements as recommended. I will make a big difference in how you feel.
