Is it normal to gain weight so early in the journey? 11 pd. in 21 days is this normal. It has been painful exhausting and horrible so far. I really wish at times I did not do this. I am hungry al the time. I am clearly not one of the lucky ones. Mood is all over the place. I am not a happy camper.

Everyone gains and loses at different speeds. I am a month out and for a while I felt hungry all the time and that wasn't really a big deal because just drinking 1/2 a shake fills me up. Remember to keep drinking water, follow your drs advice, walk walk walk and as things settle down, you'll feel better.

Daily fluctuations are normal throughout this whole process. Stick to your plan, get your liquids and proteins in, and you will reach your goals.

What type of WLS did you have?  Knowing that will help people give you answers.

Go to your profile and enter your surgery type and date. This info will show up each time you post. This is info we need in order to give you advice that applies to your situation.

Stay off the scale. Weigh yourself no one than once a week, less often if you can manage. (I weigh ONLY at my doctor's office---I don't even own any home scales.)

A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. You may be holding on to about a half-gallon more water today than the last time you weighed. Heck, my weight can fluctuate by 5 pounds from morning to nightfall!

Your hormones are in an uproar right now. We store estrogen in our fat, and as we lose weight, that estrogen is released back into our bloodstream. Talk about mood swings! Six months from now, you'll feel really differently.

The 4 lbs. on the scale is NOT fat - you are not doing anything wrong.  It is simply water retention.  A half gallon of water weighs 4 lbs.  Your body is still in shock from surgery and is trying to preserve resources.

Give it the proper food, lots of fluids and lots of rest.  I promise, the miracle will happen for you too :-)

I weigh myself everyday, but only record it once a week on Wednesdays - the day I had surgery. I also record on my surgery day the 23rd of the month, that way I can focus on the trend rather than daily fluctuations.... it will fluctuate.
