Advice on the gastric sleeve?
Here is a clickable link. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/ Tons of people on here have had it done. Best bet is to look next to where it says MY OH and click on the magnifying glass. You can search for whatever you think about. I bet if you even search pros and cons of the sleeve you will get thousands of answers.
You might want to try the Vertical Sleeve forum. I had the sleeve done December 4, 2015. I received alot of information from this site and also did some searching on youtube with Dr. Alvarez on the sleeve. He's got some great questions and answers on youtube! I believe the Sleeve has more pros than cons and I LOVE my new stomach. Wished I had this surgery years ago. Good luck. Christine
11+ years ago, I chose the Duodenal Switch. This means I have a Sleeved stomach, plus an intestinal bypass similar to, but more aggressive than, that of the RNY.
I have found the Sleeved stomach very easy to live with---it's just like my pre-op stomach, except it actually does get full and satisfied by a small-normal portion of food, and it's not constantly demanding that I feed it. It tolerates anything I choose to put in it.
However, I can eat enough food that without the permanent malabsorption of calories the intestinal part of the DS gives me, I would be regaining/have already regained everything I lost. I knew that my metabolism was super-efficient at running my body on fewer calories, and that I wasn't going to be happy counting calories for the rest of my life. I knew I needed a bigger gun than just the Sleeve alone. But that's ME---it may not be YOU.
Research all your options before you make your final decision.
I had thoroughly researched my options before meeting with the surgeon and still found talking with him through the options was VERY helpful. It's interesting how surgeons differ in their opinion about which surgery is best for you. We talked for a good hour about the RNY versus the VSG. There is a ton of great information on this site but I also recommend having that conversation with the surgeon you choose before making a final decision.
Best of luck to you!
