question about drinks
My plan specifically prohibits liquid calories, which rules out a lot of soda. From all the research I've read over the years, I avoid artificial sweeteners when possible, which rules out a lot of other sodas. And, from what I've read here, soda seems like it can be a very uncomfortable experience.
So, for me, I just work to ignore those cravings. 14 months post-op, I have zero interest in soda.

It would really help people answer your question if you included your surgery date and type. But regardless of the type of surgery, liquid calories (other than protein shakes) are a bad idea because they do not fill you up, which defeats the purpose of having surgery. People have differing views when it comes to diet sodas. A lot of programs say no carbonation ever. I plan on waiting at least six months after surgery before considering drinking diet soda, and I avoid regular soda at all costs.

Yrs ago I would have said go ahead. I was in the "carbonation won't hurt you" group until you end up with a giant hole in your stomach. Not saying the fistula was caused by it but it certainly didn't help. You were told no carbonation. I would follow the instructions.

Depends on which surgery you have had, when you had it, whether you are talking of sugary or with sweeteners, whether you are diabetic. It is so hard to answer with virtually no information.
Personally I avoided it for the first six months but occasionally have it now.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Depends on your surgeons plans! Mines is no caffeine for 3 months and no carbonation for 6, being that soda was one of my major problems and I was addicted to it, I plan on never drinking it again now that I don't crave or even think about it anymore! But like someone above stated those diet peach ice tea snapples are everything!!!😋
I gave up soda the day before surgery, it was one of the harder habits to break. Now I don't even want it. I am currently trying to cut down on my Crystal Light habit now...yikes.
