Many claims about the health properties of cinnamon are unsupported by scientific evidence. A quick google for health information on cinnamon pops up sites like Natural News and others known to be sorely lacking in medical background. Actual research is scarce and the general conclusion is that there's no real proof it has any of the claimed benefits.

Mayo Clinic says there's really no effect on cholesterol.

Repeated studies on cinnamon for blood sugar fail to show consistent beneficial effects.

The only research I found on cinnamon as an antifungal treatment was in application to fungus on other plants.

There is no evidence that cinnamon prevents or treats cancer. Suggesting such is irresponsible.

Additionally, most studies used ACTUAL cinnamon, often extracts at high concentration. NOT the stuff you usually have in your kitchen.

Health articles are great. But surely we can get health articles with a legitimate medical basis??

I'm not a scientist but I have always used it on my cottage cheese. I read somewhere years ago it helps with the tummy fat. I carried my weight around my waste and was concerned with the health issues associated with that. Back to the cinnamon. I do notice a change in the puffiness in my stomach area when I use it daily. It may be crap. But, a little crap now an then never hurts. ;)  cure for cancer, I would t go that far.

Wow, these are a lot of unsourced, unsubstantiated, and in some cases completely disproved claims. OH was the last place I would expect to see this kind of pseudoscientific woo being peddled. Very disappointing, and makes me seriously doubt the veracity of all the other articles I've read on the site.

Mark this day in my calendar.  I actually agree with 4FurKids on this issue

It's not the first, nor the last time, that Member Services posts spurious information.

Take what you want from it and leave the rest. At least Julie took the time to look the stuff up. No need for your unnecessary tongue lashing (4furKids). You are still fairly new to this game.  A post on cinnamon isn't the end of the world.

OH is not a replacement for your own research and advice from your doctor and shouldn't be expected to be

I think her post was spot-on. We call out other users here for posting inaccurate, potentially dangerous information. Why should this be any different??

I think telling someone to sprinkle a little cinnamon on their oatmeal and advising people on vitamins, supplements and deciphering labs on here is two very different things.
