First off, let me say that I don't cook.  I know that this is something that I will have to start doing for myself and I am trying to prepare.  I will be having gastric bypass the end of June.  What sort of things should I have in my kitchen to prepare what I need to eat after surgery?  By this, I mean both pantry items AND kitchen utensils or machines.  Thanks!

I have these on my amazon wishlist and will purchase them as I get closer to surgery.

I hope this helps!

I'm 12 weeks post-op today, and I really didn't/don't cook either.  I will microwave stuff or open a can of beans and warm them on the stove, but real cooking... never before.  And I live alone, so cooking doesn't make sense for me.

However, when I was approved for dark meat turkey at the 2 month point, I bought some single turkey thighs and legs and baked them in the oven for an hour... then I de-boned them and put them in small, meal-sized portions in the freezer.  They've lasted me over a month so far.  I consider that real cooking... and I survived it!

This week I'm approved for chicken and I'm going to try the same thing.  All you need is a cookie sheet, some foil, some salt & pepper and an oven - ta-daaaah!  Then you can add your de-boned meal-sized portions to canned items, like high-protein soups and beans, etc.  Melt a little skim-milk cheese on top and you're Chef Jackie!

However, I'm also going to try the roasted whole chickens you can get at the grocery store... you can do the same thing with them.  That's much easier, but doesn't smell as nice as cooking them at home.

Oh, and I bought some turkey patties and froze them.  You can take one out at a time, crumble it and cook it up in a frying pan (no oils or anything) with some garlic salt, pepper and cumin and it's instant turkey burger, ready to be added to anything you like, or just munched on for lunch or dinner.  I add mine to FF refried beans... yum.

Thanks Corrie!  Those things definitely sound do-able. I will give it a try.

Try heating the meat in salsa and adding a little shredded cheese on top. Makes the meat really moist and tastes great

The World According to Eggface has a good pantry/refrigerator staples list as well as recipes for all post-surgery stages.  :D
