NSV - Running with my 6 year old
Our family went on a hike today and about 5 minutes into the trail I realized I forgot to put sunscreen on my 6 year old so I told my husband we would go back to the car and then catch up with him later. On the way back to the car, my son said "I'll race you" and took off. I ran after him until we reached the car. I could feel my butt jiggling the whole way, but I was barely out of breath and it was fun to be able to be playful with my little guy.
I'm approaching my 8 year surgiversary and I will tell you that it is the NSVs that really help keep you doing the things you need to do to stay on track. The positive health impacts are sometimes hard to 'see'... i.e., improvements in blood pressure, HbA1C, etc..., but the NSVs or those things that really impact our quality of life are really tangible impacts that we can see and feel. I even have a list of them that I refer to on a regular basis and they help me keep doing the things I need to do so that I can do the things that I want to do.
Keep up the good work!
All the best,

Keeping a list is a great idea! It is easy to forget where we were and all the little details we struggled with at the beginning of our journeys. After all, many of us were at least a little bit in denial at one point or another about how our weight was affecting us. A list of reminders could provide some powerful motivation during times when we are feeling like we are not making much progress.
