Saying good bye to Carb Countdown Yogurt and Smoothies :(-warning long
A few days ago, I read a posting that Hood Foods discontinued the Carb Countdown Yogurt and Smoothies. I know there are many of you that did not like this product, but I am one that did. It became a staple in my diet, I am on the go with my job and Monday through Friday Carb Countdown Yogurt was often part of my breakfast.
I went to the one and only grocery store in my area that sold it and they posted a note that is was temporarily out of stock. Which in many cases it is often out of stock because the demand was so great (at least at my store)
I called them today thinking this may be a urban legand and they really did not discontinue the product.
The customer service person, Donna told me that yes it was discontinued and that no matter how many people call they will not bring it back. I told her that showing a commerical every so often on TV and only offering a coupon occassionally was not enough and that word of mouth is the best adverstising. I explained that I have lost over a 100 lbs and adding this yougurt helped me to keep my carb intake under control and I loved their yougrt. I also shared with her that I discussed their product with my dietician and she encouraged me to keep eating the healthy foods I like like this yogurt.
Donna said, no matter what I say they are not bringing back Carb Countdown Yogurt it did not sell enough. Then I proceeded to tell her people post notes on this website about their product and that I would post a note and encourage everyone that liked the product to contact her, and she begged me not to do that because she has to answer the calls.
I then thought well Yoplait makes a similar product with a little more carbs and less protein but I have a back up, well I guess I don't because Yoplait also discontinued their carb smart yogurt.
I am on the go with my job, so much I do not have time to eat a big breakfast each morning, especially eggs, yuk! I do not know what I am going to do, what are your suggestions. I do not want to go back to protein shakes in the AM because then I am hungrier by lunch time.
It has been two weeks without my yogurt, i dump on anything with a substantial amount of sugar and am for the first time since surgery worried that I will not be able to eat the foods to keep me thin but have to go back to foods that will put the weight back on.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know, likewise if you too will miss Carb Countdown products, I encourage you to call Donna and complain.
Thank you for letting me vent!

Sorry for your loss!! I know how that is to count on something and then lose the use of it. This may not help you, but I eat 2 string cheese EVERY morning. It is yummy, good protein, low carb, very portable, and does not require refrigeration if you want to take it with you. Good Luck.

Vicki

I'm another one who was very disappointed by this news. I looked for an outlet in my area as soon as I saw the ads for the product. For many months I only found the product at the one and only low carb store in the region. I had to drive around 50 miles round trip to get to this store. I would ask the owner to order me several cases of the stuff so that I didn't have to make the drive so often. I was paying $2+ per smoothie. Then in the last couple of months, the smoothies were FINALLY available in my local grocery stores. And then the yogurt showed up! I was so thrilled. And then very shortly thereafter, I heard about the discontinuation. I've been cleaning out my local grocery stores whenever I find any of the products on the shelf. AND to add to the frustration, they are reducing the protein content in the milk from 12 g per cup to 8 g per cup.
Luckily, Dannon makes a low carb smoothie and yogurt, and I can get the Blue Bunny low carb items, so we're not completely up the creek.

I feel the same way. I emailed Hood and they wrote back and told me that the products were discontinued due to low sales and they won't be bringing it back. I told them my whole story but it didn't matter.Today I found that Kroger has a yogurt with the same stats 80 calories 12 grams of protein 1.5 grams fat. And it is on sale here for 39 cents a container. So everyone who has a Kroger run out and stock up so that they won't take it off the market too. PS It taste really good too. Lisa
Hi Lori,
Sorry this is happening to you. I personally have been getting the South Beach breakfast bars (found in the cereal aisle) that have 10 grams of protein and are low in sugar. I also eat cheese sticks like the other poster mentioned. The Dannon and Blue Bunny low carb yogurt is pretty good. I also will have a single serving sized bag of beef jerky on occasion with a small piece of fruit.
I hope you find something that works for you soon!
Take care,
Nanette

I feel the same way. I was devastated when I saw there were none on the shelves and after reading about it here. I bought the Dannon Light n Fit but don' really like it. Yogurt has always been sort of tart and not a favorite of mine but the Carb Countdown was yummy. I put 20 grams of unflavored protein powder in it each morning for breakfast so that started me with 32 grm of protein each day. This new yogurt (which was the lowest on the shelf) only has 6 grams of protein and a whopping 12 g of sugar compared to 1 gm of Atkins CC. I am so mad! The new yogurt is sort of tart and I don't really like it; it will be a chore to eat it daily.
