How to talk with people about my upcoming surgery

You're so right that there shouldn't be any shame. And it's probably shame that makes this so difficult to talk about the surgery and my weight. Maybe I've completed avoided being part of any conversation about food, health, fitness because I want to pretend that they don't realize that I'm a big girl--though it's not really a secret.
