Hello everyone. I have a huge question. I am 7 yrs post roux en y gastric bypass. I have never had any complications. I just had a hysterectomy last thurs and they put me on morphine 5mg every 4 hrs..as well as 100 mg indomethacin suppository.  I was concerned about the supp because it's a nsaid which was instructed not to take.  Anyhow..after a couple days on the morphine..which I was trying to take sporadically. .I had alot of pain right under my breast bone above my belly button anytime I would eat anything. Even a few bites. It was a sense of fullness.. that fullness would last for hours.  I started to read effects of morphine n found some interesting material. I stopped the pain meds and called Barix Clinic to find out more info as our hospital don't deal with gastric patients.. can snyone give me some insight or recommended a pain med cause Tylenol isn't cutting it.

I would be more concern with the NSAIDS causing pouch irritation or even ulcer than morphine.

even small amount of NSAIDS does that to me.

Even if the nsaid are suppository form? My gyno said it doesn't reach the stomach. .that it's absorbed though the rectum or vagina..where ever u insert..but I stopped both.

I'm afraid your gyno is mistaken. NSAIDS, regardless of the method introduced into your body, enter your blood stream and have the potential to do all the same damage as if you had taken it orally.

Call your bariatric surgeon. S/he will know best what you should take, and may be able to write an appropriate prescription or consult with your gyno surgeon.

I just had a hysterectomy in January but I'm pre-op. I would call your surgeon and have them write you a rx for a different pain medication. When I had mine they sent me home with lortab 10s. (Im pretty sure those are still safe to take.) But if it was laproscopic the worst of the pain should be over very soon. I think I was completely off my meds by the end of the first week.

I had a hysterectomy year and a half ago, full cut open the belly type.  After i left hospital the doc had me on percoset. Didn't experience any belly pain but had horrible hallucinations.  Then took Aleve after that.  Dont have any issues with Aleve, only ibuprofen.
