5 day pouch test and wine?
There is no reason goals HAVE to be met. But, in my opinion, aiming high has better results than expecting less. 240, and even 225, seems high for you. Though both are certainly better than where you started. But why not aim a little lower? Pushing yourself a little, without punishing yourself, is usually a good thing.
My original goal for myself was 225, and I went right by that. I'm 6'3", and will be 55 this year.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
Thank you, Grim, for responding to my question.
I didn't think about my weight loss goal in those terms...like I had said I was just aiming on the last weight where I looked & felt normal! Plus, my daughter had lapband, is only 5'5 & when she got down to about 220 she looked & felt really good so I was thinking arounf that weight for me would be good!
I guess being this obese just distorts your whole outlook on things, and I really need to pay attention to what the vets on this site have to say. My surgeon has not discussed goals w/me, but I have only had the initial consultation at this point. He said I could expect about a 65% weight loss after surgery.
Looks like you've had an incredible journey! Hope to follow in your footsteps...

I guess it depends on health. I have never fussed too much about BMI as it is an arbitrary measure. But it does give an idea and I felt, for ME, I needed to get out of the obese into the overweight categories to maximise health benefits. Not for the labels but because I felt health benefits would accrue.
i am a lot shorter than you (5' 4") and a lot older (64). My goal was 150. I made it and went to 139. That still put me with a BMI in the middle of normal. But it was way too thin for me in terms of appearance and how easy it was to stay there. So I happily regained to my present comfort zone of between 155 and 165 - still puts me as clinically overweight! But it is right for me in terms of health and looks.
For me, just an inch shorter than your daughter, being anywhere over, say, 180 wouid, in my view, risk a return to the painful knees, raised blood pressure etc that I used to have.
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I am 5'11" tall and in my late 50's - almost 57. I started at 383. I get that it is hard to picture yourself at a lower weight. I had the attitude when I went to my first appointment... "I'll be happy if I just am thinner" while that was true, I was challenged by someone there--- why wouldn't plan on getting to a normal BMI? I set little goals along the way. I don't know if I ever will get to the 170 I set on my ticker...still too far off. My next big goal is to get below 200. I was 195 many moons ago... as an adult and I don't remember thinking I was too thin. In my mind, any woman, even a tall one should be below 200. That's what I am saying to myself. That's not to say I don't feel great now...just not finished yet. Good Luck, one goal at a time...

What Jen said. If you are trying to do a "pouch test" for additional weight loss, drinking the empty calories in wine is, indeed, like drinking a milkshake.mmif you lose the alcohol, you might eliminate enough calories that you won't be looking for a magic fad diet.

Ok, so I'm new to WLS. I had RNY on 24 March 2015 so I am what 5 weeks out? So my question is what the heck is a pouch test? I'm not interested in it as I'm losing weight with just being out of surgery but I was just curious so I know what people are talking about when I read posts like this. Thanks!!!
Google Five Day Pouch test. It is a crazy restrictive five day diet which supposedly "shows you if you have stretched your pouch" (hmmm!!) or resets your eating pattern (double hmmmm!).
