Well, I just got back from my hematologist for a three month check-up and my numbers are back up. He stated that I am anemic. Has anyone had the surgery (I'm having the Sleeve on May 11.) and been iron deficient already?

Dr P has still cleared me for surgery AND has scheduled me next week to "infuse" me with iron (an IV of iron liquid stuff--i know technical words, aren't they?).  This definitely has me bummed out so close to my date...

It's a good thing I had moved my appointment up a week!

Take a deep breath and smile because you and your doctor are on top of this.  Congratulations on getting on that 'better health train'.  Hugs!!!

Thanks AppleSpice! I'm just so nervous that my surgeon will postpone. I really hope he doesn't. I will see my blood doc again next week so I will talk to him about it. Hopefully by the following week, my numbers will be better when they draw blood for my pre-op.

I was always borderline anemic prior to surgery but not bad enough to get infusions.  The weird thing?  Post-op my iron is fine!  I wasn't even allowed to give blood before by the Red Cross - now I can :-)

My husband was anemic both before and after his bypass and he did fine. Many people are anemic nothing to get "bummed" about, you will do just fine.

Thank you, everyone! I'm feeling a lot better about this. Hopefully the procedure next week will help my numbers before surgery.
