Help please!!
Ok I'm a newbie and my surgery is in 2 weeks. I've given up caffeine since I'll have to after surgery at least while I'm healing but I'm having horrible migraines. Would it be okay to take Anacin it has caffeine in it. My question is is caffeine in medicine okay to stop migraines and is the no caffeine warning more for coffee and sodas? I think I read somewhere that caffeine is not okay after surgery because it stops healing or slows healing but would it be okay in a small amount in the form of Anacin? I can't bear these migraines everyday. Thanks in advance hoping someone can help
This varies very much by surgeon. I was never asked to give up caffeine before or after surgery. They only said you couldn't count more than 2 cups caffeinated beverages towards your daily fluid intake....

Hi there! I gave up caffeine 18 months ago on one of my many, many, many failed weight loss efforts. The diet bombed but I stuck with decaf and thankfully never went back to the full juice! I say thankfully because I had a real problem with coffee; I always had a mug of coffee in my hands at work, from 7am to 7pm. Plus a venti Starbucks latte drink or two. Every single day. Not particularly a healthy level of caffeine at that time!
I went cold turkey off caffeine and it was very painful. The very best thing to do while coming off caffeine is to drink a lot of water. Take Tylenol of Ibuprofen gel caps for some headache relief. Your body will need a few days to eliminate the caffeine but once it does, you're home free. Also know that decaf coffee contains a slight amount of caffeine, so a cup of decaf may also help take the edge off your headaches.
In my surgeons program I couldn't have anything with aspirin nor caffeine in it for two weeks before surgery, so check with your program to be sure. I'd stay away from it if you can. Good luck!

Anacin contains aspirin which is an NSAID, so you shouldn't take it post-WLS. Execedrin also contains aspirin.
