High Protein food vs shakes
I'm almost 6 months out and still consistently drink 1 protein shake a day. Some days I do 2 and wish I would consistently get the 2nd one in every day. As time goes by my capacity increases and I believe that I will eventually be off the protein shakes and getting all of my protein needs met with food. Until then, the shakes work for me and my medical team is quite happy with me still using them to supplement meeting my daily protein goals.
Right after surgery, I added Isopure Zero Carb powder to my daily Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt to increase my protein intake.

There's no such thing as vs. food. Your body need food and the many nutrients in it to grow and keep functioning properly. Meat vegetables dairy fruit etc. You ever here abut the story of the NFL player who made a huge fumble because he was hungry? Protein shakes should be taken in the morning 30min before practice and then maybe before you hit the weights or maybe before bed. When we did the protein shake thing it was before we worked out 45min after workout then 1 cup before we hit the sack because sleep is a catabolic period and it worked great, we wake up feeling like Zeus. 10 min after practice is to soon. Try 20-25 min after...
I don't do a shake anymore, but I do have a 20g protein bar for breakfast. If the protein bar didn't work for me (and it doesn't for a lot of people on the weight loss stage), I'd definitely do the shake. My doctor's office also recommends a protein shake a day during weight loss.
