600lb. life
One of my biggest pet peeves about that show is him always talking about "skin surgery" when very little of what he is actually removing is skin!
I have seen a surprising number of people -- for either their pre-op osych eval or for followup counseling -- who think that a plastic surgeon will just remove whatever extra fat they don't lose after surgery, and I know that things like this show contribute to that expectation.
I understand that many people who were originally SSMO lose a large amount of weight but are still obese and have issues with lymphedema or an extremely large pannus need to have large amounts of skin, tissue, and fat removed for mobility or other medical reasons, but this show does a terrible job of explaining what the issues are. When "Dr Now" constantly talks about "skin surgery" rather than talking about it in a more accurate way, people ARE getting the idea that they can just lose a certain amount of weight and then have the rest removed with insurance-paid "skin surgery"... and then they can get really pissed off when their surgeon tells them that it doesn't work that way.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I completely agree!! And this definitely helps spread misinformation. When I share my story with my students, many seem to think I got lipo to remove my 200 excess pounds.

Any chance you can share the photos? The only group I could find with that name is a closed one.
A lot of the WLS surgery groups are closed so your friends and families can't see your postings. You may not want everyone reading about your WLS and questions. You can request to be added.

Damn. Her progress makes me feel like a slacker.
WHAT a transformation! I am so thrilled to see how well she's done. Tell her that she has a lot of fans on OH who admire what she's achieved. Brava, sistah!
