New Full Sense Device to Combat Obesity

"The initial concept for the Full Sense device came in 2004.  I came up with the idea as another way to help people who are struggling with their own obesity. Since then my partners, Drs. Foote, Kemmeter, Walburn, and I have been working hard to take the concept through initial prototypes all the wa... Read Full Story

I have concerns about devices designed to put pressure on the vagus nerve - as it looks from the diagram will be the case. It has been found with the band that such pressure can lead to irreversible damage.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Yikes, NO!

First, I'm done with foreign objects after having a band for 6 years.

Second, it goes through the lower esophageal sphincter.  You know, the valve that hopefully keeps stomach acid IN your stomach.  Even if the two sections are loosely connected by wires (and doesn't act like one big funnel), it seems like that would irritate the sphincter and could cause it damage long term.

The band uses vagus nerve stimulation to work and trust me, it's not fun.  Chronic referred left shoulder pain is a biggie.  Now, due to dysphagia, I've developed a thing called supra gastric belching.  Due to irritation of my stomach and esophagus and the feeling food is moving too slowly, I burp almost constantly to relieve the pressure.  I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I would never ever put anything around my stomach again not in it not around it! We need mental health help first before any surgery, then we can think about a surgery. Everyone keeps trying to fix the body when 90% of us need therapy first to deal with the disordered eating habits!

I dunno. Let's see. People freaked out when WLS first came on the scene.Fact, they still do.

Worth seeing what, if any, long-term success this new might achieve. They might want a more PR-friendly prototype though. The meshing looks scary.
