Insurance denial overturned

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and have been fighting my insurance company, United Healthcare for approval for bypass surgery since Oct. 2014. After the final denial I found an obesity advocate attorney who offered a free consultation to see if they could get an independent review organization to review the case. The name of the company is Lindstrom Obesity advocacy.  (http://wlsappeals.com/)

I am writing not to give them free advertising (although they deserve it); but to inform others in my same situation that they were worth every penny. I had spent $1000 on jenny craig, weigh****chers, nutri system, a personal trainer, etc... and they were charging $600-900 to write the appeal letter and then do all the leg work and follow up. I just had to be patient, which was really hard. After my insurance company denied me, i was so depressed and searched various forums for information on advocacy groups/attorneys, etc... I did find several mentions of this company and because of those postings, I went ahead and called them.

I am happy to say that they did get me an independent review and the independent review company overturned the denial by United Healthcare. I a, scheduled for surgery on the 27th of April.

If anyone has any questions, I can try my best to answer them. Don't give up the fight!!

You are absolutely right. Don't give up the fight! My insurance company originally denied me in August 2014. I followed the procedures to appeal and request the independent review. By their own language the insurance had 60 days to respond. On day 100 I contacted them to find out what was going on. Whoops no one had record of the certified packet that was mailed to them. 48 hours later lo' and behold I was approved. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. Never give up advocating for yourself. Good luck on the 27th!

Carpe Diem!

Bravo!!  I am just now starting the process and am not looking forward to the insurance "fight."  When "someone" says no, I usually take it as such and don't want to "bother" them with my protests.  God forbid if I make them angry!  Your post gives me such hope and encouragement!  Best of luck to you and thank you so much for sharing your story!!!
