Protein shakes
Exercise isn't going to do anything to help with excess skin. Skin that is damaged (think stretch marks) will never snap back. Also, if you've been heavy for years and years like I was, you've actually grown extra skin to cover your larger size. As you lose weight that skin has no where to go except hang there. And no exercise in the world is going to fix that, unfortunately.
You can exercise to make the muscles strong and lean underneath and you should. But the excess skin will have to go in order to see the full benefit of all that exercise.
I got the ones that have ALOT of protein - PureProtein has 35 gm prot in 12 ounces and 190 cal. Two cans was all I needed for 70 gms prot and right after surgery it was easy to get the required protein (many shakes are only -15 gms prot per 12 ounces - so you need 5 cans). I think MuscleMilk is high prot also. I suggest you get enough for your first 1-2 weeks after surgery so you don't get in a situation where you don't have what you need. There is not a lot of choice - van or chok in the higher prot drinks. For me they are like drinking choc milk, so I am happy with them. Good Luck.

if you have the vitamin shoppe near you home, they are great about letting you return items. As long as you have the receipt and there is 70% of the product left you can return. i had to return numerous protein shakes.

I second the Vitamin Shoppe. They sell single serving sizes of several brands so you can try them. I ended up liking Bariatric Advantage best, but everyone's taste is different.

My medical office recommended Premium Protein, Pure Protein and IsoPure. I was told "no Muscle Milk." Since I had never heard of it, I didn't worry about trying it. I am set up for surgery this week on 4/9/2015, and am having RNY. I think some things depend on they type of procedure you have since the RNY must have the lowest sugar possible. I like the Premium Protein best right now (I'm on the 1 week pre-op liquid diet) with 30g protein, 1g sugar and 160 calories for 11oz. It's not a lot to drink and it tastes good (for now). I keep hearing tastes may change which will be an oops for me since I did a stock up! Usually I'm a chocolate fan (hence the RNY choice), but I actually like the strawberry best and then the vanilla and finally the chocolate. The IsoPure is a clear protein drink and comes in a variety of flavors. It is 20oz (takes me forever to drink) but has 40g protein and low sugar. I have also purchased some of the Unjury protein (purchased through their website and recommended by my doctor's office), but have not yet tried it. I purchased 2 single servings of each kind. Good luck!
I agree that my tastes changed dramatically after surgery, but for the most part, my preferences came back. I've always liked Atkins Dark Chocolate drinks but could not bear them early post op. I liked strawberry or orange which I loathed before!! I'm back to chocolate Atkins now but also enjoy the vanilla Premier Protein. I will say I feel more satiated with the Atkins. I think they have more fiber which is good for me. Good luck!
Yes, Vitamin shoppe will let you return and so will Costco. I am sure other if you ask. I think Vitamin shoppe you just get a credit....not 100%sure though. I've gone through cycles... as others have said you like something, then you hate it... but for me eventually my tastebuds came around and I could have it again after a couple of months. For several months I could only tolerate coffee flavored Chike and Fit Frappe. It is individual....

Protein shakes are shakes infused with protein, often in soy, egg or whey form. These shakes are often fruit smoothie-style -- even chocolate flavours are there. In theory, increasing your protein intake increases your chances of losing weight when you're working out.
Should you be consuming protein shakes? If you're a pro athlete, sure, but otherwise it's not really necessary. Adding protein to a smoothie adds calories -- lots of them. If you already have a balanced diet, that extra protein isn't necessary. As for weight-loss, it's a result of decreasing the number of calories you consume, but if you add a bunch of extra calories in the form of a protein shake, that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
Protein shakes can add as much as 200 grams or 300 grams of protein (800 to 1,200 calories) a day. If you don’t need it, the body stores all those extra calories as fat. Also, if these shakes are taking you to the high end of the protein spectrum, you may be increasing health risks—high-protein diets may cause bone loss and kidney damage.
So ya... think before you try protein shake.. If you work out regularly, then its good for you.. You wont feel hungry and can reduce your intake of calories. But if you dont work out then its a bad thing..
I dont think you can make it.. You must order it online or buy from pharmcies.. Hope it helps.. :)
