Not sure where to post this.
after years of living for others, I want WLS for me. I'm 5'2 and 260 pounds , my weight has steadily I creased year after year. I've lost and gained weight. I. Ready for a change the challenge is I live overseas Soon, I will be going back to the states for a few weeks I can extend the trip for a few months. Should I try to get the surgery done while I'm there , how quickly can a self paying patient get in for WLS?
I'm aware this is a huge lifestyle change I am committed, I want to do it for me and to be a healthier happy person. Thanks
You will want to start communication with a clinic now to find out what you can get done before you get back to the states. Any doctor will want to monitor you for a bit after your surgery so I am not sure if any will be willing to do your surgery. But maybe a doctor you contact can talk to your PCP where you live now and they can work together on your aftercare. Good luck with your decision!!
I was self pay, and I went into the surgeon in November. I asked if I could have my surgery done during my Christmas Break at school. I was super busy with all the different things I had to check off- sleep study, psychologist, ultra sound, endoscopy, etc. I was at at least one- many times more- doctor's/ WLS appointment per week leading up to the surgery.
It's possible, but you need to ask ahead of time what the surgeon is willing to do. Good luck. I hope you can make it happen!!!

Have you researched all four WLS procedures and decided which one is right for you? If so, then you can start seeking out a surgeon who has a lot of experience in doing the procedure you want. How quickly you can get a surgery date will depend on a few things---how far out your surgeon is already booked, and what pre-op testing he or she requires. I imagine if you explain the situation, most surgeons' offices will be willing to work with you.

If you are living for a long time in a country with good health care, if might be sensible to get it done there. Then you can get the follow-up and monitoring and are near the surgeon if things go wrong.
