There really should be a rules of conduct and posting section for people to review when they make an account.  Or have I missed that someplace?  Please point me in the right direction if there is such a thing for this site and this particular general discussion forum.  It would certainly save a lot of headaches and irritation.

I have found the best way to "know how to post" on any forum is to lay low a bit first and do lots of reading until you get the "feel" for the style of conversations and topics.  Common etiquette should (hopefully) dictate in any given situation.

That is a huge serving of cheese, which, while delicious, is calorie dense. It, like peanut butter and nuts, is easy to eat far too much of. Even at over three years out, most of my meals are 300 or fewer calories.

Ricotta isn't on the list, which provides 27g per cup...my favorite protein source and easiest to eat for new post-ops.

I love cheese always have.

Just before Christmas my husband and I took a ride to Federal Hill Rhode Island which is know for their Italian bakeries and restaurants.  There was a market we went into and my  god I could have lived there.  They had so many different imported meats and cheese.   I bought my husband 4 stuffed cherry pepper and for my treat I got a 1/4lbs of some of the most amazing blue cheese imported from France @ $23 a lb it was so worth the price.  It was so strong and stinky, but it melted like butter on your tongue.

Would I eat that now after my revision?  No, at least not until I am well into maintenance and even then it would only be a treat.

Hi Modest,

As you may remember I'm also pre-op and I'm practicing eating, drinking water, exercising, logging using MFP, and living the bariatric lifestyle now (just eating bigger portions!). I'm also using the more mainstream approach in terms of eating animal (including fish) based proteins. I am going to focus on losing as much weight as I can and staying as healthy as I can in the process, and getting the right amount of protein (and controlling carbs) will be hard enough using these selections. Hats off to you for trying a more unique path, but it will sure be a harder one.

I hope you have found, or can find, a nutritionist with bariatric experience to guide you and work with you on a vegetarian eating plan. My surgeon and my hospital both have nutrition programs built into their program, and I am learning a ton from this.  My nutritionist will be a key part of my post-op team. At some point we will need to not only lose but maintain! So if you haven't already I hope you'll try to find a resource to work directly with you during your journey.

And, Definitely start a blog! I have one, though I'm keeping it private for a now. it's  a great outlet and a place for me to store good information for future reference. Christine
