Some people have a super sensitive sense of smell after WLS. It doesn't seem to happen a lot, but often enough. It goes away slowly over time.

I haven't had my family tell me my breath stinks, but I wake up every night (several times a night) to sip water because my mouth is SO dry. Way more than before surgery....
I believe what you're talking about is a side effect of rapid weight loss, it has to do with ketones and low-carb diets.

One of my friends had VSG in December and said everybody had onion breath to her for a few weeks afterwards. I think it's just an occasional fun side effect of ketosis.
YES!!!! I had the same thing. It took about four weeks to go away- thankfully. It's kind of uncomfortable to experience that when talking to EVERY person you meet! It goes away...
