I am very aware of people's stinky/bad breath since having my WLS! I have noticed it on several people over the past week 😳

did anyone else experience this?

Some people have a super sensitive sense of smell after WLS. It doesn't seem to happen a lot, but often enough. It goes away slowly over time.

I haven't had my family tell me my breath stinks, but I wake up every night (several times a night) to sip water because my mouth is SO dry. Way more than before surgery....

I believe what you're talking about is a side effect of rapid weight loss, it has to do with ketones and low-carb diets.

I was just looking this up the other day:

My sense of smell became VERY acute after WLS.  It's died down a bit now but I still am a super-smeller!

One of my friends had VSG in December and said everybody had onion breath to her for a few weeks afterwards. I think it's just an occasional fun side effect of ketosis.

YES!!!! I had the same thing. It took about four weeks to go away- thankfully. It's kind of uncomfortable to experience that when talking to EVERY person you meet! It goes away...

I experienced it from both sides.  The heightened sense of smell goes away after a few weeks.  My own dry mouth/bad breath is ongoing, lol.  I have started using Biotene...and actually stopped scraping my tongue because that seemed to make it even worse.

I hope I don't have bad breath as well haha because what I'm smelling is nasty! I mean I can smell the bad breath lurking behind the scent of toothpaste after someone JUST brushed their teeth hahaha
