Anger and Irritation
I had gastric bypass over 12 years ago, still good with weight but in the last 2 years I have noticed that I have been getting angry and irritated very easily (too easily). Before surgery I was so shy (cripplingly so) now I am no longer shy and speak much more freely, but this anger and irritation is so new and very scary. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
I know nothing about you but if you had surgery 12 years ago, you aren't very young! Might it be the menopause!
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
I really don't think this has anything at all to do with your 12 year old WLS and I'm sure you don't either.
If I was concerned about my feelings and how I was handling them, I would see my doctor right away. If you don't already see a psychiatrist, a referral might be a good idea. Sometimes depression displays itself as anger/irritation. It's a terrible feeling - to feel scared of our own feelings. I would get some help in dealing with it.
Hope you feel better.

Are you seeing a therapist? If not, get yourself to one. I'd also suggest talking with your doctor and maybe seeing a neurologist, since unexplained drastic mood changes can be a sign of something nefarious in your brain.

low carb diet - less carbs - = less serotonin - the happy hormone.

Well, do you have good reason to be angry?
I don't mean this to be funny, but I mean it seriously. You described yourself as cripplingly shy when you were obese. Does that mean you kept things inside that you had a right to be angry about? Do you mean that you are now less willing to take crap from other people?
If that's the case, then I don't think that there is anything wrong with you, but perhaps anger is an emotion that you've not let yourself express or feel before. It's such an overwhelming emotion that I can imagine that suddenly acknowledging it could be very scary.
I think that in the right frame, anger can be very empowering as long as we don't give ourselves permission to be abusive with it. It's okay to be angry. It's really what we do with that anger that can be problematic. Do you feel that you have good control of your actions when you feel angry?
