6 month supervised diet calorie intake problems
I don't have a clue why. But i know that i have great restriction when i avoid most sugary carbs, but i can eat a lot when i eat carbs.
Carbs also can leave my pouch, vsg sleeve much faster...so the hunger and cravings can be back in no time.
At one time in my life i become vegeterian..then turned vegan ....on just 6 months i gained app to lbs while felling like i was starving...i ate all healthy natural foods... My body can't process so many carbs...

If I don't eat dense protein (meat), I am hungry all the time. Carbs make your body release insulin. Insulin makes you hungry. Vicious circle. That's probably why most bariatric programs emphasize protein first and over 80 per day.

The problem with both nuts and cheese is that they have carbs, too -- and they are calorie dense. Most nuts and seeds are 1/4 per serving. That's not going to be very satiating.
I would try to find some protein source that is less carb laden like meat. Perhaps tofu or boca burgers -- I don't know? Perhaps someone who is not eating meat can help with some ideas. My go-tos are shrimp, chicken breasts and fish -- all low in calories, no carbs, high protein and VERY filling. So, I am not much help -- but surely, someone who is successful not eating meat can give you some ideas.

When I want an alternative to meat, I have chicken.

LOL, I ate a ribeye last night -- so good --my favorite cut you know. I thought about you Grim...
I thought, "If Grim were around, he'd steal my damn food" -- then I protectively put my arm up to shield and protect my plate and growled at my husband.

It's hard to offer advice when we don't know what you are actually eating. I eat only dense proteins (chicken, fish, meat), little amounts of veggies and no fruit at all as a post-op. I do eat lentils and beans, nuts and dairy. I never feel hunger (very cool side effect of my RNY) and I eat between 1200 - 1300 calories a day on average.
I think you should try to eliminate anything that causes insulin spikes and avoid simple carbs (including fruits) to see if this impacts your feelings of hunger. Don't give up - it is a process to figure out what works for you and how you are going to deal with "hunger" in the future. Night time eating is a common problem for lots of folks here. Maybe a planned protein drink/snack at that time will help you?
I am noticing that when I eat bread, even the sprouted grains or whole grains, and noodles, it causes me to want MORE of almost everything. I haven't noticed that with fruit or potatoes.

Honestly, I could not stick to a low calorie diet pre-op. I needed the tool to help me be successful. Do you need to lose a certain amount before you can have surgery? I know some surgeons require that. Thankfully mine did not.
