Diarrhea and Sharp Upper Back Pain - 7 Days Post Op

Hello all,

I continue to have ongoing diarrhea and sharp pain in the center of my upper back 7 days after gastric sleeve surgery.   Are the chronic diarrhea and sharp upper back pain normal one week after surgery?   If yes, is there anything I can do to prevent either?  Thank you!

You should be asking your doctor.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Not an option.   I had the surgery in Mexico and every time I contact surgeon's team, their pat response to every question is "Consult your primary care physician" or "Go to the ER."   That is why I am reaching out to fellow gastric sleeve patients.   I am hoping to determine if others are having (or have had) the same experiences I am having.   Would ease my mind a bit if I learned that my symptoms are not uncommon.

That must be really hard for you. I hope some vsg people can help you. Have you posted this on that board?

I am not familiar with the vsg board.   I will check it out.   Thanks very much for your advice.   Your feedback is sincerely appreciated.

Immediately post-op, you're on a liquid diet, and---liquid in, liquid out. (*grin*) The sharp pain worries me however. Call your PCP, since your Mexican surgeon is non-responsive. Who did you go to, BTW?

I went to Dr. Mario Almanza of WeightLossAgents.com.   Dr. Almanza's facility is in Tijuana, Mexico.   I knew going in that I would never have direct access to my surgeon post-op, but I am disappointed in the support I have received from his staff at Weight Loss Agents.   I have already scheduled an appointment with my PCP for Monday.    Thanks very much for your response.

I'm 3weeks post op VSG and day 5 I had really bad diarrhea I was told to go to the ER if it persist or was more than 4 times an hour. I was started in antibiotics, they took a stool sample it turned out to be nothing, but you need to go to the ER not only can you be dehydrated especially since it's been ongoing, it could also be an infection and your stool needs to be cultured to rule that out! But the loose stool is normal not diarrhea. The sharp pains could be gas are you walking a lot? But week one I had really sharp stabbing pains in my side again I was told to go to the ER had to have a ct scan but turned out to just be my incision being irritated by doing to much! But you should just go to the ER to be on the safe side.
