Post Op Infection

Just had my sleeve gastrectomy on Thursday, March 5 and home now.   Have had chills off and on for past two days.   Is this normal?   Also, has anyone had any issues with post-op infection -- either internal or at the incision sites?   Should I be taking my temperature to check for fever?   Thanks for your feedback!

Check for redness, feeling warm to the touch and any signs of oozing.  If you have a fever or any of these symptoms call your surgeons office.  Good luck

Most likely respiratory, are you breathing shallow due to abdominal pain? Make sure you are walking and breath deeply. Did you bring home your incentive spirometer from the hospital ? Chills are not normal, take your temp, watch hor any other signs.....painful urination, wound looking red, coughing up gunk.....call your MD in the morning. There should be instructions on your discharge papers....

Good luck !

As someone who 4 days after surgery took herself to the ER to find out I had aspiration pnemonia that put me in the ICU, DO NOT hesitate to take yourself to an ER if you really think things are not right.

Its better to be proven wrong, than to find out its much worse later on.

Yes, take your temperature.

I was told to call with fever above 100.

Lots of folks are very physically cold after surgery, I had to pile up with blankets and wear several layers of PJ's for a few weeks. That may or may not be what you're dealing with.

I would suggest calling your surgeon's office first thing in the morning, you can probably speak with a nurse and they can decide what to do from there.

At two weeks out, I ended up with an Urinary Tract Infection (probably from the catheter). I had never had one before and being so close out of surgery I'm still trying to understand what my pains, pressures, and rumbles mean. Listen to your body and if anything feels off, call your surgeon's office.

Just checking in to make sure you have placed that call to your surgeon and you are ok?

By all means, she should check with her doc. But a LOT of people get really cold after surgery. REALLY cold, all the time, where they were always hot before surgery.
