better habits now or food funerals?

So the 42 pounds you lost prior to the band were from personal changes unrelated to your WLS?

No connection at all. My highest weight was several years pre-surgery. I had been at 248 for a long time. The 42lbs had nothing at sll to do with any pre-surgery diet.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Why bother with a food funeral? Aren't there enough "good ole days" when you ate too much of what you wanted? Embrace the future & change. Better habits now would be the way to go, white knuckle the carb withdrawal now, get used to not drinking & eating now. It'll only help you.

I don't know what foods you'll never have again, there are foods you shouldn't have, & head hunger is a problem for most., but you can do this! Good Luck!

I did a combination of both.  I replaced 2 meals a day with shakes starting about 2.5 months pre-op.  I did have a few food funerals as well, but I didn't do too much damage due to my reduced caloric intake with the shakes.

I think that's where I'll end up, middle of the road. The things I'll miss aren't slices of cake and piles of pasta, it's a big crunchy salad and all the fresh fruits available in the summer, lol

I could eat big crunchy salads after about 12 weeks and can eat fruit now.  I did cut fruit during the losing phase but eat a lot on maintenance.

Thank you for that good news. I much prefer a cold crunchy apple to applesauce! ;-)

I did both. There were certain foods I LOVED and I had a final meal of them to enjoy them one last time :) And then most foods like 99% i just cut them out.

I felt the same way before my surgery in 10/11. I felt that my enjoyment of all food was going to be over. But I was so wrong.

Now I can actually eat just about everything, but not junk. Chocolate has actually lost the allure it had before surgery! I don't miss anything. I eat much less - healthier- food. i don't snack on cookies & other sweets. Nuts and fruit do the trick. Food cravings are a thing of the past.

I eat primarily protein, & a veggie.

Don't think that you won't be able to eat what you love, but you will find that your tastes and appetite have drastically changed.

Good luck.
