better habits now or food funerals?

I totally agree! Calories are like money, is this REALLY what I want to spend them on?!?

Good luck to you and thank you for sharing!

There is nothing that I cannot eat after surgery.  I enjoy the smaller quantities more, because I have learned to slow down and enjoy each bite.

Working on good habits is important.  Things like cutting out the white carbs and soda will just make it easier after surgery because you will have already gone through those withdrawals.  Surgery is hard enough without having to also adapt to a new way of eating.

Start the healthy way of eating now and it will make things so much easier for you after surgery.

I had no pre-op diet so I had tons of food funerals. It was kind of silly really I remember eating at this BBQ joint I loved... today I could eat many of the things on the menu, some modifications, sauce on the side, veggies versus carby sides. I really was saying goodbye to the quantity mostly.

There is great food on the "other side of WLS" and the few items that I choose not to have in my life or are not recommended post WLS I really don't miss... it's funny how purging your body of those things for awhile, and feeling healthier and valuing that feeling can have on your mindset about food.

Best to you,

I will say I did have a couple food funerals. One thing I did do was not drinking with meals. That was a major problem before I started thinking about surgery.

I always talked too much at the table and washed my food down with a drink. I did try to make better decisions before surgery. Old habits are hard to break.

One thing I did do also was  I had a food journal. I wrote down everything. I didn't know about myfitnesspal then. I use that now. I had a column I made for how I was feeling and what I had done good that day.

I had no pre-op diet. I just kept on eating what was then my normal intake.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Not even all liquids the week before? That's all I was really instructed to do. The rest I'm just doing because it makes sense. After all, they're doing abdominal surgery, not brain surgery, my poor habits can only be modified by me. ;-) But the success stories, support, kind words and suggestions sure help, thank you!!

It's quite common to have no pre-op diet except the 12 hours nil by mouth for the anaesthetic. Different doctors, different views.
