When and how much do I need to tell my employer about my intended weight loss surgery?

I told everyone I worked with what I was having done, but I've worked here for 11 years, and it was pretty obvious even right away after I came back to work.  In your situation, after only being there for 2 1/2 months, and working from home so often, I probably wouldn't give any details either.

I took 2 weeks off before coming back, but if I was working from home, I probably would've been back after a week.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. Based on the responses I've received, I won't be specifying the surgical procedure. And it sounds as if planning on a two- to three-week recovery time might be the way to go.

Height: 5'10" HW: 264.4 Bariatric information session 1/21/15. Insurance approves VSG 4/30/15. Surgery date 5/28/15.
