Today's Episode on The Doctor's - Honey Boo Boo's Health Intervention
Sadly, even at age 9, no intervention will help if she doesn't want to make the change herself. My parents would have had to lock me in my room and fed me through a slot at the bottom to keep me from overeating.

I just hope June really makes the commitment to help her daughter. Being overweight is hard, and I would want to do everything I could to prevent my child from getting further health problems. I do agree with Gwen though, that even at age 9 Alana does have to want to help herself though. If June does everything on her part to help her make the healthy choices but Alana still doesnt then I dont think the parent is to blame. Children can get unhealthy food from other sources (i.e. friends houses, school, relatives, ect.).
I was an obese child, so I think and wonder was there really an intervention my parents could have done. My Mom cooked every night - meat, veg, and starch. Small glass of milk.... But where there is a will there is a way. Last night at support group the Surgeon's wife came in (she is a Social Worker and helps run the office) anyway she said yesterday they had a phone call from a family of an obese 12 year old. She did talk to the child as well. Trying to figure out what to do with that one.

I remember as a child growing up nothing tasted better than my mother's home cooking, it wasn't just the food but it was the act of sitting at the table as a family.
If the mother changes what she cooks & eats to the kind that was on the show, I'm sure the child will get her asthma under control & eventually lose weight. KFC won't have nothin on mom! Kids want to be active but they can't if they're sick. It's the adults that have to be motivated to be more active.
