I need help in Nebraska with financing of my surgery.  My insurance company continues to deny me and must get this done.  Please help.

Hi

Here are some links to sites that handle loans for WLS.  Some members also research going to MX for surgery if you end up having to pay cash.  Let us know if you are interested and we can send you links to some surgeons from MX that do WLS.

What is the reason for their denial?  Is it just not covered at all, or are they wanting more out of you?

I have a group plan through work.  They told me that they will not cover any biariatric surgery even if I am having complications caused by obesity. They will pay to treat all the complications but not for the surgery.

Okay, so your employer chose a policy excluding wls to save on premiums.

I'm afraid there usually isn't much you can do in cases like this.  You may be able to plead up to HR to see if they can change to a different policy for open enrollment, but I've not heard of any successful pleas for any exceptions to their chosen policy.

It looks like being a self-pay will get you taken care of the soonest and with the least headache, however I know that is not an option for everyone financially.

I self paid by taking a loan from my 401k, so that may be an option to consider (I went to Mexico as many have on these boards).

Medical tourism worked for me for financial reasons, and I also live in San Diego so it was a short trip. It was a wonderful experience (as great as a surgery could be, ha!).

However I've heard advertisements on the radio here for a So Cal Dr. doing VSG for under 10k with financing options, so I know there are lower cost surgeons available in the states too if you don't want to go abroad.
